Faith & Flower

There aren't many places that can become a "favorite" in my book. I am a how-I-feel, what kind of day it is type of girl, so I don't technically have a list of 'Favorite' restaurants, but when I dined at a hidden treasure in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles, Faith & Flower, I knew it was one of my favorites.

This fine dining restaurant specializes in hand crafted, award winning cocktails, including one that dates far back as the 17th century that takes 3 days and 3 steps to create, the English Milk Punch, and a wine specialty to compliment every dish served. They're attention detailed perfectionists, and that is why I fell in love with Faith & Flower.

Upon arriving, you are sure to be enveloped in fine drapery, custom interior design with a trendy but elegant flare and old school hanging chandeliers that make you want to simply admire the beauty. But when they seat you at the bar, with a TV and rows of fine liquor, you are reminded that it's all up to you - A fine dining dinner, elegant brunch, or drinks with friends while watching Thursday night Football.

We were sat at a booth near the front with plenty of (well, more than enough) room and began the night with Rose from our drink pairer, Jared, who complimented each course with a wine that brought our taste buds to Europe and back. Gilberto, our server, brought history into every dish, keeping us on our toes about what we were tasting. Many times throughout the night, we had to ask again what main favors were incorporated and where they originated. Between the chefs magical hands and the drinks poured, Garrett and I were wowed with every dish.

To begin our night, a strong start with Kampachi Ceviche was laid in front of us, with homemade potato crisps served with Reisling. My favorite appetizer of the night had a light spice, easy and not too heavy sauce that complimented so well with the sweet Reisling. Next up, New York Steak Tartare evened out our taste buds. This was more savory and the meat was entirely tender, I didn't realize I was eating steak at all. Jared complimented that savory flavor with a 2008 Syrah that Garrett couldn't get enough of. The entrees began with a healthy choice, as requested, of Jerk Marinated Half Chicken served with a side of smoked Broccoli. I loved the soy glaze in the Jerk Chicken and it was so fresh! The broccoli is made in the stone oven where they cook pizzas, so it came out piping hot with that touch of smokey. The Jerk Chicken was paired with a nice Chardonnay. And for the final entree, and my favorite dish of the night, we were given a 'healthy' portion of the Oxtail Agnolotti Ravioli. This pasta was immediately my favorite for a couple of reasons: it was hand prepared and the pasta was delicate and cooked perfectly, there was so much flavor without making the dish feel creamy or overdone. The inside of the Ravioli was textured to a T, and I ate easily 3/4 of the plate. Our ravioli was paired with a Bordeaux Blend that was sublime. Not to finish there! As we know, I am a huge dessert fan. Gilberto surprised us with a Hazelnut Chocolate Feuilletine, that I childishly named my hazelnut Smore's. It is not a heavy dessert, but instead, it's like your grandmother -sweet, kind and delicate.

To polish off our dessert, the night was finished with a Leap of Faith, a drink that is lit on fire that you inhale the fumes and drink away. Our eyes were lit up with the red and blues from the flame, and our night was made. We will be back very soon for English Milk Punch, Kampachi Ceviche, Oxtail Ravioli and Jared to give us more to explore with our taste buds.
